“A QUESTION MARK WHICH HAS BECOME A TIMELESS SYMBOL OF THE CITY”

about the collection
To celebrate 60 years since the public opening of the M1—Milan’s first subway line—in 2024, cc-tapis presented a new project by Massimo Giorgetti for the Franco Albini Foundation.
In 1964, Franco Albini designed the red tubular handrail of the Milanese subway, a functional yet elegant solution to prevent commuters’ coats from getting caught as they moved through the underground stations.
Massimo Giorgetti—Founder and Creative Director of MSGM—drew inspiration from this iconic design element for MSGM’s FW24 collection. In 2024, he continued to explore this theme, presenting hand-knotted artworks alongside a giant robotufted piece, produced in cc-tapis’ Milanese prototyping center as a tribute to Franco Albini’s design for the first subway line.
Inspired by the concept of transit—a continuous flow of information, people, and public transport—Massimo Giorgetti developed a series of unique, hand-knotted art pieces.
The curved lines of Albini’s emblematic handrail became the foundation for unique art pieces, made in contrasting shades and sizes. Massimo Giorgetti merged Franco Albini’s design details with personal memories from his own journey, moving between Milan and Rimini. Subtle references to the iconic parasols of the Riviera’s warm summers and typographical elements from his adopted city, Milan, complete the narrative.
