cc-tapis at Valner Residence

cc-tapis presents Roll by Sabine Marcelis, a sculptural rug installation at the Valner Residence during Mexico Art Week 2026.

On the occasion of Mexico Art Week, cc-tapis presented Roll, a limited-edition series of three rugs that exist halfway between floor covering and seating, installed in a site-specific project at the Valner Residence, a landmark early-1970s home by architect Agustín Hernández in Mexico City. The work originates from the simple gesture of unrolling, freezing the moment when a rug ceases to be just a surface and begins to take on sculptural presence. Each piece transforms simultaneously into a surface and a seat, making familiar domestic gestures tangible while crystallizing them into singular, poetic forms.

Material contrast plays a central role: soft, hand-knotted wool meets the hardness and translucency of resin, creating a tactile and visual dialogue. Though radically different in nature, the two elements are unified by a monochromatic palette, emphasizing continuity and sculptural presence.

Created at cc-tapis’ in-house prototyping hub using robotufting, Roll pushes the boundaries of rug-making, redefining the object as both functional and sculptural.
