CC-TAPIS X PENADÉS AT MATTER AND SHAPE

cc-tapis and Penadés Office unveil a reversible robotufted rug at MATTER and SHAPE 2026, developed through the Made in Milan prototyping service.
Presented during the 2026 edition of MATTER and SHAPE, this new collaboration between Penadés and cc-tapis explores the intersection of material research, landscape and textile experimentation.
The project originates from Uprooted V02, an ongoing research initiative by Penadés that investigates the cultural, agricultural and material significance of olive trees across Mediterranean territories. For this chapter of the research, the studio translates the physical qualities of olive roots—grain, density and irregular irregularities—into a tactile textile surface.
Crafted from dead-stock wool, the reversible rug combines three undyed yarns with varying pile heights and calibrated thicknesses. Through subtle shifts in texture and density, the surface evokes the layered complexity of Mediterranean landscapes while preserving the raw, organic character that defines the project’s material narrative.
The piece was developed through cc-tapis’ Made in Milan service, an experimental prototyping platform based at the company’s headquarters in Milan. Here, designers and collaborators can explore new production possibilities using advanced robotufting technology, enabling precise control over yarn direction, pile height and material combinations.
Within this context, the collaboration with Penadés becomes both a design exploration and a material study. By translating the structural language of olive wood into wool, the project opens a dialogue between agriculture and craft, natural extraction and regeneration, rural knowledge and contemporary design practice.
