Raag, a new way of looking at India through a contemporary lens. British designers Doshi Levien interpret the sequence of notes associated with the classical Indian music system “Raag” with a chromatic language of compositions and proportions weaved on a flat fabric.

Choosing to work within parameters, Doshi Levien experimented on a self-imposed grid, collecting, matching and playing with colourful hand painted samples. Following the designers’ original grid, artisans weave some or all notes (colors) in ascending and descending scales, producing surprising rhythms which “are not just random patterns, there’s mathematics and experimentation behind it” - specifies Nipa Doshi.
