Stroke

About the collection
Inspired by domestic associations, such as strokes, wipes, brushes and streaks, Sabine Marcelis captures daily gestures expressing her masterful manipulation of color and shade through a collection of hand-knotted rugs.
“The house is like a canvas, and we are constantly creating drawings and marks and traces with our daily gestures. Strokes, wipes, brushes, streaks; surfaces become a temporary canvas. The rugs I designed for cc-tapis capture two of those gestures in a permanent state.”
- she says of her creative process.
Sabine Marcelis envisions each room as a canvas and the rugs as the singular gesture onto which one builds a composition. Starting from these associations, the designer considers the expressive potential of everyday life merged with Lichtenstein’s pop-art brushstroke paintings and the colorful fields of Pablo Tomek’s spontaneous movements.
Featuring different gradients of color and pile heights, Strokes highlights the thoughtful craftsmanship present in each rug mirroring the three-dimensionality and irregular pigment of a stroke of paint.
